Hiding from love? God is the cave you shelter in

What God wants us to know about trying to shrink our power

There is nothing about God that shrinks, hides or retreats.

You may shrink from me, turn away from my voice, hibernate within shelters you have built – physical and psychological – that you think can keep me out. But they do not keep me out – I simply honour the decision you have made to make them. I do not step back, but your desire to hide becomes your reality.

When you make a different decision, to let me in, I curl into all the spaces within you. Your heart cells pound with me. Your synapses spark with me. Your breath is filled with nothing but me. And so you and I are one, and we expand, and we grow and we learn together.

You have been thinking about what it means to make a decision. I can help you to work it out. You decided not to settle, and you grew. You decided to leave work and I caught you and delivered you to a new opportunity where you have been seen and have grown. Now you seek wider fields, and can see yourself running through them, the sun bouncing off your shoulders, metaphorically.

Paint a vision for your future life, so I can hold it.

I can deliver to you whatever your heart desires, but you must choose first, for you are the creator of your world and I am the master of holding the form.

Close your eyes and imagine yourself a year from today.

You wake up and stretch into a vibrant reality that contains only your truest heart desires. Harmony in love and work. Fulfilment in your sense of purpose. What does your day hold?

I hold you, and you hold the day.

Choose. Go to the furthest stretches of your imagination. What can you comfortably hold? Imagine yourself helping five people during your day and through the purpose you choose to express within it. You see, you can imagine five. A person in the street, or the bus. A shopkeeper. A colleague who looks like they need a smile. You can imagine helping five and it doesn’t seem too onerous a task to find them.

Now imagine it’s 50 souls you help. That feels sizeable, to come across (let alone help) 50 people in a single day. It might be a different role that you need. A bigger dream with wider reach. But 50 is still a number you can work with, without too much of a mental stretch.

Now imagine it’s 50 million people.

Suddenly you can’t, so you have found a limit to your belief. You literally cannot imagine how you could help 50 million people in a single day. But I have told you there is nothing about God that shrinks. I am talking about you.

To make yourself small – that concept has no reality. Yet, you wonder if anyone can help 50 million people in a day. The Pope, you say. Anyone else? No one's coming to mind.

But what if I told you that you already help 50 million people a day, and you do this every time you think kind thoughts. Oh, you imagine that’s not the same thing as being Pope.

Just thinking doesn’t help people eat better or laugh more or feel happier. Doesn’t it?

It seems to you that to help five people on an ordinary day or 50 on a very good day is a manageable sum, just about, but 50 million is totally unreasonable and unreachable.

But when you truly raise up your brother – any brother – you lift the entire body of God. 500 billion is too small a number of souls. 50 times that is nowhere near enough.

So start with ONE. Because the unreality is in the multiplication. It is in believing that 25 trillion is a higher number than one.

For one is all and whole.

Your thought 'helping 50 people sounds like a lot’ is a limiting thought, based on a false belief in your nature and my reality. But if you truly believe you can only do a tiny bit of good in this world, or should only do small things to be polite or to not inconvenience anyone, I want you to know what you are really saying.

Because “I can’t” has no part in me. I can and I will. And therefore, so can you.

You are a chip off the infinite block, dear child. Helping five people might be where you think you are today, but I want you to imagine that you cannot truly help five people. As I have said, to help one is to help all. Therefore, let your level of focus be on helping one. Let your love be like the love of your father. Omnidirectional.

My love is not a laser beam or a Cupid’s arrow. Picking people to love would be like picking people to get rained on. Imagine a cloud that chooses which people it allows its raindrops to hit.

No, the cloud cares not. Its function is to rain. Mine is to love. I care not who gets hit by it, for I know that all life does. Running away, the legs that carry you are made of love. The cave you hide in? Made of love. That fear you conjure up in your mind of the great beast chasing you? The very imagination you use to invent that beast, is love. The energy of love, which is truly all there is.

You might try to escape the inescapable, to outrun your fate. Consider that all the tools you use to run from me are made of the very thing you seek to avoid.

But while you live in the belief of separation, get your mind comfortable with 500. Then 500,000. Then 500 million. Then 5,000 trillion. Get comfortable knowing that your reach is infinite, your will unending and your echo bursts back and forth through time in a never ending symphony. You, and all my children.

And when you help One you help all. So five is not a bad pursuit. Five souls enlivened is holy work, and if they’ve been put in your way, there is purpose to that. You’re here for holy work.

But grow from there. It will be a stretch. You’re looking through a pinhole and thinking your view is all there is.

I know you are scared of what it means. If your thoughts can lift the all, can they also fail to lift the all? Can they damage the all? And how bad would that be?

Not bad. This is not a judgment. I do not say “Do this or be damned.” But think about it. Your power is greater than you imagine by magnitudes. Sit with that. Now again, imagine your life one year from now. Does helping 50 people a day seem like less of an ambition than it did just a few minutes ago? Then you are allowing your mind to stretch. This, then is the expansive power of God within you.

You do not need to look for power and glory, but remember it. Next time you shrink yourself and tell yourself you can’t do it, remember who you’re talking to.

You might be a spark, and not the whole, but you are a spark of the whole. We share an essential core. If you think you can’t do it, you think that I can’t do it. To think that God is less is to revere LACK as a higher, more powerful force than I AM.

Is that who you want to be?

It is a choice. And your belief that it’s not a choice, is also a choice.
